Hire car in France
Used Alamo for our hire car for our recent road trip around the South of France. Pre-booked online and arrived at Marseille airport to the car being ready to collect, and all staff were friendly and explained everything we needed to know. There were no hidden fees, and we weren't upsold anything - we had pre-booked excess insurance.
The car was modern, and was perfect for our trip. It did have some damage on our collection, which the team had noted on their system and also taken pictures of. They encouraged me to also take my own pictures. On our return to Marseille airport despite being early the team were quick and efficient in checking the car, and the security deposit they had taken was returned within seconds. There were no hidden fees and the whole process was smooth. I will 100% use Alamo again when next needing to hire a car in Europe.

They let me down at the last minute
I booked a car from Alamo in March for dates in June this year. At 7.30pm on the night before I was due to collect it at 10am they called me to say that they did not have a car for me. I explained that I needed to transport 4 adults with luggage and this was totally unacceptable, but all they could do was offer a bland apology and blame Covid. They said I could call the next morning and they may have something. When I called they still had no car, but then offered a Fiat 500 which was completely unsuitable. I had to hire a car at short notice from a competitor. I have contact Alamo by email and by phone to lodge my complaint but have had no response whatsoever. A car rental company with no cars does not deserve to be in business. Do not use them

Don't bother
Very disappointed with the company. I pre-paid for a car and an additional driver online only to be charged more on an actual rental day (£219 more) @ Southampton Airport. I didn't get a clear explanation why I paid more when I contacted the customer service twice over the phone (received 2 different explanations). Email with booking confirmation and the invoice on the day of paying a deposit were not consistent and showed different figures. I was told I actually paid for an additional driver on the day when I got a car (although I'd already paid for that online a month in advance), the other time I was told I paid for extra protection of the car I never agreed to. I feel the company just wants to add extra costs for customers to pay whenever thay can.
For these reasons I don't recommend this company.

Terrible experience
Terrible experience. I thought is was just me but having read the other negative reviews there seems to be regular complaints of people being charge for damage. Hired a car at Munich airport. In my case I was charged 975.45euros for an 8cm and 4cm scratch to an alloy wheel. How can a minor repair cost so much? I disputed the damage but couldn't provide evidence. Breakdown of charges only available in German so can't comment on costs. Be warned. Check and photo every inch of the car before you leave the airport to avoid getting scammed. Avoid Alamo/Enterprise/National.

Avoid at all costs, plus their sister companies
We rented a mid-size SUV from the Aberdeen Airport branch on 11 June, having reserved a vehicle online and paid in advance a sum that also covered the cost of all booked extras, including an additional driver. Despite this, Alamo have since taken the additional driver cost twice more from our credit card, and we are now almost £260 out of pocket.

Car rental but no cars???
Scam companies at best.
Alamo, Enterprise and National are all same sh!t. I smell tax evasion.
None of them have cars available at any dates and yet system allows you to make reservations. Good thing I didn't pay in advance.

Booked a 2 day hire from Glasgow airport, starting at 7.30pm on Friday 29th April via Airport Rentals.com. Total rental price £398. Premium /luxury class with 5 seats (C class Mercedes’ or similar). Reference IM36295789. Paid deposit of £40 plus excess insurance at £20.
Rocked up at the counter to find other customers queueing but no sign of Alamo staff. Another customer and I checked out the car park booth but no-one there either. All telephone numbers provided and found on the web simply told us that Alamo at Glasgow airport was closed. In the end I hired a lower group car (Vauxhall Crossland) from another provider - one of the three others that were still open at Glasgow airport. It cost me £100 more than my booking was supposed to cost, but had the advantage of actually being there.

One of the operators who WAS still on site told me that the Alamo operator had not been seen since 4pm that day.
Shockingly poor service. Won’t be using them again.

Check tyres when picking up
Good service when I picked up the Nissan X-trail, automatic. Several small scratches were noticed and not a problem when returned. A worn out tyre with a little rift to it was unfortunately not noticed when I picked up, but is obviously a costly affair. Do not know until 4-6 weeks. So if you are charged with the same left rear tyre in April/ May 2022, you are being tricked.

Do not use ALAMO they scam you on insurance.
I booked Alamo though Holiday Autos, a car hire broker. I paid for Damage Waiver insurance as part of the price.
When we came to pick the car up from Alamo in Geneva, we were told that the Damage waiver insurance had an excess of E1500, yes E1500! So even if an accident was caused by someone else, or you had sustained a small scratch on the car, they take the full E1500 and decide what to return you after the damage has been repaired. They offer you insurance against incurring the Damage Limitation waiver excess for an additional E200, yes E200. This is a total SCAM and rip-off. Insurance with a E1500 excess is not insurance. We could have bought a car for what we ended up paying for a weeks car hire. We will NEVER use ALAMO again.

Fantastic service
Fantastic service. Bus was there at Heathrow terminal, took us straight to the car. Car was in perfect condition. On the return, dropped the car off and bus was waiting to take us back to the terminal. Staff were nice and friendly. Excellent experience overall.

Downgrading a rental car
I prepaid for a Ford Galaxy but on arrival at Aberdeen airport I decided to downgrade to a much smaller Vauxhall Corsa. The difference in price was approx £450. The rental agent that I used are still to receive a response from Alamo customer services. I’ve been waiting 6 weeks for this to be resolved and still nothing. I recommend that nobody pays in advance for a car when renting from Alamo

Scam Company
Tried to pre order car hire for Orlando International Airport and it took £1,050 off my credit card and said error in payment and claimed they have refunded it, I tried it on my debit card and they did exactly the same…none have yet to be refunded and now they owe me £2,100.

I would avoid using this website.

Awful experience
The worst car hire experience I have ever had. Waited in a queue at the Alamo office at Limoges airport for two and a half hours. Half the time we were outside in ever increasing darkness, damp and cold. The other half of the wait was in a cramped room crowded with customers, no covid safety measures in place. Only one agent at the Alamo desk. Eventually our turn but the small manual car we had booked was not available and we were given a large automatic. The whole experience was very stressful. On returning the car to Limoges airport we were greeted in the car park by the same agent who issued us the car. He checked the car, mileage and fuel and gave us the all clear, showing confirmation on his tablet. Foolishly I did not take a photo of it but thankfully I did take several photos of the vehicle on returning it. Three days after returning to the UK I received an e mail saying there was damage to the car after it had been returned via the key drop box! I had been charged 180 euros before I even received the email. I have submitted a complaint,photos and e mails, left telephone messages and had no response at all from Limoges airport. I will never ever use with company again. I have submitted a complaint to Alamo UK customer service and await the outcome.

The worst Service I have Been received…
The worst Service I have Been received in my life. The car just broke up due to an electrical problem ( Nissan Qashqai) at 7 pm and anyone in Enterprise/Alamo helped us, they told Nissan have to take the case, and 4 hours later we didn't receive any help, and had to wait alone, with cold, without any assistance from Alamo/enterprise or Nissan. It's 11:09 pm and we continue waiting help. The costumer service have been the worst and they don't care about us
